A CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY and sister school to the University of Notre Dame, St. Edward’s University cultivates critical thinking and social service among its nearly 5,000 students, 3,697 of whom are undergraduates. Its serene and challenging liberal arts learning environment is situated only blocks from some of Austin’s favorite hangouts.
The 160-acre campus is set in the hills of Austin, overlooking the thriving downtown area. In recent years, the campus has welcomed new buildings, including a library, science building, and auditorium, along with renovated facilities, including the campus recreation gym, chapel, and ministry building. The Munday Library was made possible through the single gift of $13 million from Bill and Pat Munday. The John Brooks Natural Science Center houses computer science, mathematics, and bioinformatics programs, while the 126-seat Carter Auditorium functions as a lecture and performance hall. The 14,396-square-foot University Federal Credit Union Alumni Gym recently underwent a $3.3 million renovation. The university has acquired the Wild Basin Creative Research Center to establish an interdisciplinary natural resource laboratory and provide hands-on learning.
St. Edward’s is recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and nearly 30 languages are spoken on campus, making for a diverse community. In addition to more than 50 undergraduate and seven graduate programs, St. Edward’s is home to New College, an educational program tailored for adult learners.
Along with a network of 21 partner universities in 19 countries, a branch campus in Angers, France, was founded in 2008.
