The spirit of Texas inspired Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) to open its doors 125 years ago, in 1893, as a university modest in size but big in vision. Southwestern excels at creating an atmosphere of learning, with direct access to professors doing research and students receiving hands-on training and real-world experience.

In addition to baccalaureate degrees, Southwestern offers master's programs in education and psychology. Other programs include an associate’s in fire science with the ability to pursue a 4-year degree; EMT certification; a senior living management certificate program; and access to technical programs such as cosmetology, echocardiography, and welding. A state-of-the-art nursing building, completed in fall 2018, features specialized medical manikins, simulation hospital rooms, and medical surgery labs.

Southwestern has always had a reputation for being super friendly. You can't walk across campus without making a new friend. This atmosphere has attracted students from more than 40 other countries, as has the green, residential campus with beautiful facilities. SWAU is rated as the no. 1 safest colleges in Texas by, though its campus is only 20 minutes from the DFW Metroplex.

A Seventh-day Adventist Christian school, Southwestern promotes healthy living, spiritual well-being through worship and assembly services, and eternal values through academic mentorship. Faith-based events include community outreach, Christian music concerts, spring-break mission trips, and residence hall chapel services. Students of all faiths are welcome.
