Stephen F. Austin State University

Nacogdoches, Texas

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN STATE UNIVERSITY (SFA) was founded in 1821 as a teacher college in Nacogdoches, Texas’s oldest town. Today, SFA is celebrating one hundred years, and has grown into a regional institution comprising six colleges: business, education, fine arts, forestry and agriculture, liberal and applied arts, and sciences and mathematics.

SFA offers more than eighty bachelor’s degrees, forty master’s degrees, and four doctoral degrees. Class sizes are small, which ensures students receive personalized attention from faculty members who act as mentors.

University faculty and staff don’t believe in limiting student potential or interests. That’s why SFA continues to add state-of-the-art buildings, new academic programs, new athletic teams, new study areas, and eateries—all to make sure Lumberjacks get the most out of their college experience.

Because student support is a primary concern, SFA created the Lumberjack Wellness Network to provide holistic well-being services, and the Academic Assistance and Resource Center helps students stay on top in tougher courses. SFA’s newest “get started early” program, Aspire, offers incoming students an inclusive small-group orientation experience, and more than two hundred clubs and organizations ensure everyone has a place.

SFA athletic teams compete in eighteen intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division I level and hold 103 team championships, two national team championships, and one national championship. SFA cheer and dance teams hold thirty-two national championships.
