THE SPIRIT OF TEXAS inspired Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) to open its doors more than 125 years ago in 1893. Modest in size but big in vision, SWAU provides students hands-on training, real-world experience, and access to professors doing research. Its mission is to inspire students’ knowledge, faith, and service through Christ-centered education.
SWAU’s undergraduate degrees include recently added programs in criminal justice, esports and gaming management, and cybersecurity. Popular majors are nursing, education, business administration and management, biochemistry, exercise science and kinesiology, and theology. Master’s programs include education and psychology. A state-of-the-art nursing building features specialized medical manikins, simulation hospital rooms, and medical surgery labs.
SWAU has always had a reputation for being super friendly, with it being said that you can’t walk across campus without making a new friend. This atmosphere has attracted students from more than forty countries, as has the green, residential campus and beautiful facilities. SWAU is rated as the third most diverse college in Texas by Niche.com and is only twenty minutes from the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.
As a Seventh-day Adventist Christian school, SWAU promotes healthy living, spiritual well-being through worship and assembly services, and eternal values through academic mentorship. Faith-based events include community outreach, Christian music concerts, spring break mission trips, and residence hall chapel services. Students of all faiths are welcomed.
